![Sienna Olivia Johnson, 8th Grade, "Unstained", Drawing](http://rniv.berxwedan.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Johnson_Sienna-768x1024.jpeg)
Artist Statement: I chose to use just pencil and charcoal because the picture was taken on a sunny day, exaggerating the grayscale, and because color often overwhelms an already complex picture. Charcoal makes the small details pop and shows beauty in simplicity.
![Noelle Shin, 8th Grade, "The Most Important Parts", Mixed Media](http://rniv.berxwedan.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Shin_Noelle-819x1024.jpeg)
Artist Statement: Anyone who knows me knows of my love for literature. I couldn’t imagine a better representation of myself. Within the pages of my love, magazines illustrating the other few things I treasure, beads spelling out my wishes, and my fears left behind in the dark.
![Rachel Wu, 8th Grade, "An Insect's World", Photography](http://rniv.berxwedan.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Wu_Rachel-768x1024.jpeg)
Artist Statement: This photograph is inspired by the unique perspective of an insect’s world, capturing the fascination of exploring life from a bug’s point of view. As a child, I used to imagine what it would be like to be a tiny bug crawling around in the dirt. The figure in the background symbolizes how we often overlook the beauty and complexity of nature’s smaller creatures.
![Tali Bennett, 8th Grade, "Gallant", Photography](http://rniv.berxwedan.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Bennett_Tali-768x1024.jpeg)
Artist Statement: I am hopeful because we are opening a new chapter of our lives, and taking the gallant leap towards high school together. Having known each other for nine years on going, we will always know that there will always be someone to make daisy chains with.
![Taylor Ellison Arhart, 8th Grade, "butterflies !!", Painting](http://rniv.berxwedan.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Arhart_Taylor-768x1024.jpeg)
Artist Statement: I am an 8th grade artist who likes using charcoal, pencil and acrylic and gouache paint. Since this was a self portrait, and I like butterflies and the symbolism behind them, I chose a butterfly to represent growth and change.
Sonya Hardie, 8th Grade, “The Same Sky: Altered Book Visual Journal”, Mixed Media
Artist Statement: I hope you like my journal, I worked really hard on it.

Artist Statement: Although most people think of middle school jazz band as a silly thing that most people quit, I can’t imagine my life without it.
